History/Hanes

St Dyfan's Church is located on the site of the chapel of ease for Llandybie parish. The site of a well, Ffynnon Llandyfan, is located in the north-west corner of the churchyard. According to tradition, the water was known for curing paralysis and similar ailments. The well was reputedly popular with pilgrims, and in the early eighteenth century magistrates reportedly found it necessary to suppress unseemly dancing and game-playing there on Sundays. When the site subsequently became non-conformist, the well became a baptismal pool. After the site reverted to Church of Wales use, people reportedly continued to drink the waters from a skull alleged to be that of St Teilo. The waters of the well have since been diverted into a reservoir serving Llandeilo. The rectangular pool was rebuilt in 1864-1865 and has a flight of stone steps leading down to it.  The current St Dyfan's church was built in 1864-5

Mae Eglwys Sant Dyfan ar safle capel rhwydd plwyf Llandybie. Mae safle ffynnon, Ffynnon Llandyfan, yng nghornel ogledd-orllewinol y fynwent. Yn ôl y traddodiad, roedd y dŵr yn adnabyddus am halltu parlys ac anhwylderau tebyg. Yn ôl pob sôn, roedd y ffynnon yn boblogaidd gyda phererinion, ac yn gynnar yn y ddeunawfed ganrif roedd ynadon yn ei chael hi'n angenrheidiol i atal dawnsio a chwarae gemau annoeth yno ar ddydd Sul. Pan ddaeth y safle yn anghydffurfiol wedi hynny, daeth y ffynnon yn bwll bedydd. Ar ôl i'r safle ddychwelyd i ddefnydd Eglwys Cymru, dywedwyd bod pobl yn parhau i yfed y dyfroedd o benglog yr honnir ei fod yn Sant Teilo. Ers hynny mae dyfroedd y ffynnon wedi cael eu dargyfeirio i gronfa ddŵr sy'n gwasanaethu Llandeilo. Ailadeiladwyd y pwll hirsgwar ym 1864-1865 ac mae ganddo risiau cerrig yn arwain i lawr iddo. Adeiladwyd eglwys bresennol Sant Dyfan ym 1864-5
